Our Story
The Anchor is a 16th-century inn in the heart of Hartland, North Devon. Fif and Ann bought it in 2019 with the aim of creating somewhere that was more than simply a pub: a community space where people can socialise, enjoy cultural events, take part in activities and feel welcome.
Today, The Anchor is somewhere to enjoy a proper meal, a good drink, live music and the kind of atmosphere that feels relaxed and unpretentious.
Hartland is also an ideal base for exploring this beautiful corner of North Devon, including some of the most spectacular sections of the South West Coast Path.
Our Philosophy
We believe in:
- Quality ingredients, prepared and cooked in our own kitchen.
- Proper cask ales from Devon, alive and lovingly tended in our temperature-controlled cellar.
- A warm and welcoming environment where everyone is equal.
- Supporting our local community.
- Bringing people together through cultural, environmental and social activities.
- Genuine sustainability.
The Anchor is about caring for and enjoying each other and the places where we live, whoever we are and wherever we come from.
